If castles, cuckoo clocks, and bell-laden cows dominate your image of the Alps, you are - like most travelers - missing out on one of Mother Nature´s greatest gifts. It´s a secret Europeans like to keep to themselves. In addition to its wealth of cultural sights, the European Alps offer a wider range of outdoor recreation than any other similarly-sized region in the world. Adventurers of all ages hike hut-to-hut on multi-day treks, skiers slide year-round on glacial slopes, and Sunday walkers stroll forested trails. Bikers loop icy blue lakes, and mountaineers scale up waterfalls and down canyon cliffs. Modern adventurers run the gamut from rich to poor, young to old, and native to transient foreigner. So take a look around. That bus driver. This tour guide. Your hotel concierge. They may just be showing you the Europe they think you want to see. Take a moment to ask how they spend their own free time - odds are that each will spend a day outdoors this weekend. Europeans cherish their wilderness areas, and none more so than the pristine forests of the Alps. Here is a guide to the best adventures in the mountainous regions of Switzerland. Based on experience gained through more than a decade of living in, traveling around, and writing about the Alps, we spotlight the best outdoor adventures. This is a guide that´s ideally suited to on-the-go travelers who seek the best of the Alps - those sights and adventures most worthwhile, most easily reached, and most indicative of the Alpine experience. What all our readers have in common is this: the desire to experience rather than simply look at the Alps. Want to know where you should go? All the details are here! 1. Language: English. Grossenbacher steht viel Arbeit bevor.

Michael von Graffenried: eye on africa
34,00 € *

Michael von Graffenried cast an eye on Africa. From two extensive travels in Cameroon, he brought back 32 panoramic photographs, a large size format which, as curator Harald Szeemann once wrote on the artiste, ´´presents itself to the observer on a face-to-face level and enables (the photographer) to plunge the (Art) spectator at the heart of the story´´. After being displayed on advertising panels in the streets of Basel, Berne, Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich, the images formed an open air exhibition at the Paul Klee Centre in Berne. The foreword of the exhibition book is by Juri Steiner, Director of the Paul Klee Centre. Albertine Bourget contributed with a text about her travelling experience in Cameroon.

The Painted Messiah , Hörbuch, Digital, 1, 593min

The Painted Messiah combines a blistering action thriller set in the streets of Zurich and on the lakes and wooded slopes of Switzerland with a compulsive and convincing account of first century Romano-Judean politics and the real reason for Pontius Pilate´s condemnation and execution of Christ. A legend persists that, after the ´´scourging´´, Pilate commanded that his victim be painted from life. Somewhere, the painting survives, the only true image of Christ, granting the gift of everlasting life to whoever possesses it. Kate Kenyon, the wealthy young widow of an English aristocrat killed on a Swiss mountain, has an addiction to mortal risk. She feeds it by engaging in the armed robbery of priceless artifacts with her accomplice and lover, Ethan Brand, a Tennessean who owns a bookshop in Zurich. Their latest target is a priceless ´´Byzantine´´ icon hidden in the tower of a chateau by Lake Lucerne. So far, they have never had to shoot anyone. This time will be different. Thomas Malloy is a retired CIA man looking for his first lucrative freelance assignment. His chance comes with a presidential favor to a rich but ailing televangelist. Malloy´s task seems simple enough: pick up the preacher´s newly acquired painting from a Zurich bank and get it to the airport. But once in Switzerland, Malloy´s old friend, the enigmatic Contessa Claudia de Medici tries to warn him off his mission. Sir Julian Corbeau is an international criminal holed up in Switzerland to avoid US extradition proceedings. He is also the sadistic head of the modern Knights Templar. He had the painting, and now he desperately wants it back as well as to wreak a bloody revenge upon those who stole it. As the contenders vie for possession, the bullets fly, the body count rises, and the secrets of the portrait gradually unfold. We learn how and why it came to be painted and how an object depicting the Light of the World could exert such a baleful and malignan 1. Language: English. Narrator: Clive Catterall.
