Originally published in 1932, Caldwell's novel told the story of the Lester family, poor Georgia sharecroppers who no longer farmed the land, but lived by whatever means possible. Caldwell's picture of the rural South challenged notions of the dignified and polite Antebellum South and depicted an image that was grotesque, violent, and morally bankrupt. Southern readers immediately found Caldwell's novel needlessly exaggerated and offensive, while Northern critics read his story as an indictment upon a failed Southern economic system in dire need of reform.

Landuse and landcover change is taken as a serious problem in changing the environment, which in turn, could lead to global climatic change and food security. This change could be the result of intricate interactions of socio economic and biophysical situation like economic, technological advancement, demography, and etc. This paper examines the changes in land use-cover types in the degraded environment of eastern Ethiopia over the last 20 years, and how such changes have influenced agricultural, local lakes and livelihoods sustainability, especially in the Alemaya district. Changes of land use-cover were measured through satellite image interpretations, while local perceptions and description of change were addressed through household interviews and field observations. The paternal analysis of the study using GIS and remote sensing technique, will be important indicator and guideline for sustainable resource utilization and management, which provides a basis for conservation and planning. Moreover, the methodology and approcahes used in the study will give a guide line for other researchers, who have similar interests.

Vast, diverse, dynamic, and turbulent, the true nature of Africa is often obscured by its poverty-stricken image. In this controversial and gripping guide, Tom Young cuts through the emotional hype to critically analyse the continent’s political history and the factors behind its dismal economic performance. Maintaining that colonial influences are often overplayed, Young argues that much blame must lie with African governments themselves and that Western aid can often cause as much harm as good. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Richard Aspel. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/boli/001176/bk_boli_001176_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
