Progress in Expressive Image Synthesis (MEIS2015), was held in Fukuoka, Japan, September 25-27, 2015. The aim of the symposium was to provide a unique venue where various issues in computer graphics (CG) application fields could be discussed by mathematicians, CG researchers, and practitioners. Through the previous symposiums MEIS2013 and MEIS2014, mathematicians as well as CG researchers have recognized that CG is a specific and practical activity derived from mathematical theories. Issues found in CG broaden the field of mathematics and vice versa, and CG visualizes mathematical theories in an aesthetic manner. In this volume, the editors aim to provoke interdisciplinary research projects through the peer-reviewed papers and poster presentations at the this years symposium. This book captures interactions among mathematicians, CG researchers, and practitioners sharing important, state-of-the-art issues in graphics and visual perception. The book is suitable for all CG researchers seeking open problem areas and especially for those entering the field who have not yet selected a research direction. Yoshinori Dobashi, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan Hiroyuki Ochiai, Institute of Mathematics for Industry, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan

Thiswork deals with the matrix methods of continuous signal and image processing according to which strip-transformation is used. The authors suggest ways to solve a problem of evaluating potential noise immunity and synthesis of an optimal filter for the case of pulse noises, of applying the two-dimensional strip-transformation for storage and noise immune transmission of images. The strip-transformation of images is illustrated by examples and classes of images invariant relative to symmetrical orthogonal transformations. Leonid A. Mironovsky , Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Russia; Valery A. Slaev , Mendeleyev Research Institute for Metrology, Saint Petersburg, Russia.

“Music is a fundamental channel of communication: through music people can share emotions, intentions and thoughts even though their spoken languages may be mutually incomprehensible.” (Hargreaves – Miell – McDonald, 2002) It can be a supporting baseline, which helps people and skilled composers to find their way to express their deep and profound emotional life and imagination. In fact, music is present in our lives everywhere playing a greater part than ever before. The rapid technological development made it possible to listen to music every time and everywhere through the commercialization and economic power of music. But how is music connected to country branding and nation image? The answer is quite simple: music can be a source of a wide range of associations. When we listen to a song featuring a country’s original characteristics, the nation itself pops into our mind with all of its typical symbols, inhabitants – briefly the image of a country. The key question in my paper is how music is able to influence the country image. The main objective of this paper is to uncover the linkage between music and country image and to draw a model based on Anholt-hexagon (2003) that can be used by practitioners as well. The paper’s novelty lies in the synthesis of theoretical approaches, which were not applied and connected to each other before according to secondary research. Nevertheless, the topic’s nature requires several examples from practical life as well: international and Hungarian case studies, moreover primary research were applied.

Development of Chemistry-Based Screening Platfo...

This thesis mainly describes the development of a screening process for a mirror-image library of chiral natural products. It demonstrates how, by using mirror-image proteins for the screening of available natural products, unavailable mirror-image isomers of natural products can be screened in a mirror process. Moreover, as mirror-image isomers including target proteins and natural products are mainly prepared by means of chemical synthesis, the screening strategy presented here suggests the importance of organic chemistry. Natural products are commonly used as valuable resources for drug discovery. However, as they are mostly produced as single enantiomeric forms, researchers have tested o nly natural products bearing one stereochemistry available in nature. As natural products and their enantiomers have identical physicochemical properties and different biological activities, mirror-image isomers of natural products are promising candidates for novel medicinal resources. In an effort to identify anticancer agents from the mirror-image library, chemical protein syntheses of some target oncoproteins, MDM2, MDMX and Grb2, and their applications to the chemical array screening process were achieved. In the course of this process the NP843 enantiomer, which is the enantiomer of an ?-tocopherol derivative, was successfully identified as a novel MDM2-p53 interaction inhibitor. These results clearly show that a mirror-image library of chiral natural products represents an invaluable medicinal resource. Accordingly, the chemistry-based screening strategy described in this thesis will be of great interest to a broad range of chemists involved in natural product, medicinal, and synthetic chemistry.

The Sacred Image: C. G. Jung and the Western Em...

The Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung made a number of revolutionary contributions to modern Western psychology, and his pioneering work was greatly enhanced through his contact with Eastern religions, especially Tibetan Buddhism. In these esoteric traditions Jung discovered a holistic approach and a deep affinity for nature, and in the yogic and tantric disciplines he encountered a complex symbolic world that resonated with him deeply. Jung was particularly drawn to the highly articulated and intricate symbolism of Tibetan Tantra, which provided considerable support for his seminal theories on the universal archetypes and the collective unconscious. His cross-cultural and interdisciplinary engagement with Indo-Tibetan spirituality later proved instrumental in establishing the basis of the modern East-West dialogue in which the religions of the East - and in particular Buddhism - have become a central focus. Jung is also widely acknowledged as the father of transpersonal psychology, which, in seeking to integrate the wisdom traditions of East and West, stands at the forefront of contemporary studies in human consciousness and mysticism. PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY Judson Davis, PhD, is an educator, author, spiritual counselor, filmmaker, and world traveler. He holds a Doctorate in East-West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology (with emphasis in Depth Psychology) from Pacifica Graduate Institute. He has taught on the college and corporate levels in California, Germany, and Japan, has produced documentary films, and has presented his work in a variety of public venues. His conference presentations include papers delivered at the 17th International Transpersonal Conference in Moscow, Russia and the Symposium for the Study of Myth at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California. His published work includes the essay C. G. Jung, Tibetan Tantra, and the Great Goddess: An Exploration of Sacred Entities and Archetypes, which appears in book Daimonic Imagination, Uncanny Intelligence (2013, W. Rowlandson and A. Voss, Eds., Cambridge Scholars Publishing). He is also the author of Jung at the Foot of Mt. Kailash: A Transpersonal Synthesis of Depth Psychology, Tibetan Tantra, and the Sacred Mythic Imagery of East and West, which appears in the International Journal of Transpersonal Studies (2011, Volume 30, Issues 1-2) in the special topic section on ecopsychology. He reviews and edits article submissions for the above journal, and is presently involved in a number of doctoral level research projects at the California Institute of Integral Studies and Sophia University. He also serves on the board of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. Additional information about his work can be accessed through his website at www.eternalhighlander.com
