The Immune System, Autoimmune Diseases & Inflammatory Conditions If you want to know how the immune system functions, what are autoimmune disorders and conditions, and how you can maintain a healthier body, then this book is for you. Females make up the greater percentage of those affected by eating disorders; however, males are not immune to the disorder. Males can also fall victim to Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Compulsive Overeating. Eating disorders are not caused by a single known cause. In fact, the majority of the individuals struggling with this disorder have developed it after numerous factors paved the way. These issues surrounding weight, diet, and body image can prove highly dangerous to the physical and mental health of an individual. Because poor body image is at the core of those struggling with eating disorders, it is no surprise that this disorder is associated with depression. The treatment´s success is proportional to the timing of problem diagnosis. The more time that elapses after harmful habits have developed and become routine, the greater the difficulty is to break the unhealthy patterns. Eating disorders are responsible for tremendous damage to both the body and mind, and the longer it is left untreated the greater the danger. If you feel that you or a loved one may be struggling with an eating disorder, it is imperative to seek immediate attention. This book will give the listener further insight into this female and male issue. From what an eating disorder is to where it stems from, pregnancy concerns, and treatment; this book will not only inform but offer helpful insight for professional help. 1. Language: English. Explaining that an impaired capacity for connection to self and to others underlies most psychological and many physiological problems, clinicians Laurence Heller, PhD, and Aline LaPierre, PsyD, introduce the NeuroAffective Relational Model™ (NARM), a unified approach to developmental, attachment, and shock trauma that emphasizes working in the present moment. NARM is a somatically based psychotherapy that helps bring into awareness the parts of self that are disorganized and dysfunctional, without making the regressed, dysfunctional elements the primary theme of the therapy. It emphasizes a person´s strengths, capacities, resources, and resiliency, and is a powerful tool for working with both nervous system regulation and distortions of identity such as low self-esteem, shame, and chronic self-judgment. Every year, millions of withdrawn little girls and chronically overwhelmed women go undiagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder because they don´t fit the stereotypical profile: they´re not fast-talking, hyperactive, or inattentive, and they are not male. Sari Solden´s groundbreaking study reveals that ADHD affects just as many women as men, and that the resulting depression, disorganization, anxiety, and underachievement are also symptoms of ADHD. Newly revised and updated to reflect the latest clinical research, the book explores treatment and counseling options, and uses real-life case histories to examine the special challenges women with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) face, such as the shame of not fulfilling societal expectations. Included is a brand-new chapter on friendship for women with ADHD. Three empowering steps - restructuring one´s life, renegotiating relationships, and redefining self-image - help women take control of their lives and enjoy success on their own terms. 1. In my room I have an original piece of artwork by Sally Huss which says, ´´Around me I wear a coat of many colors, fabrics, and textures. It’s made of friends and family here and no longer here, far and not so far. They are all part of my coat which keeps me warm wherever I go.´´ A few summers ago, I noticed a hole in that very coat. One of my best friends developed an eating disorder. As the disorder progressed I knew I needed to find help for her, and fast. I made the decision to approach her, express my concerns, and offer my support. The extraordinary thing is, despite her fears, she put her trust in me and leaned on my shoulder. This book not only contains our story, but a guide on how to approach someone you love, be it a friend or family member, about their potential eating disorder. It provides resources and insights regarding body image, dealing with your own issues, treatment options, risk factors, and much more. Most importantly, this book is a guide and teaches the listener how to approach a peer about the incredibly sensitive issue of an eating disorder. There is even a workbook at the back to help you lay out your approach. I hope you find this book useful, encouraging, and empowering. Check your coat; are there holes? If so, reading this book may be the first step to patching some of them up. Amanda J. Roberts received her PhD in Medical Psychology at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR.
